RUST PREVENTIVES

Rusting and corrosion are factors of major economic importance, costing industry and consumers abnormal expenses. These unwanted expenses can be curtailed/ eliminated markedly through the use of petroleum based, temporary rust and corrosion preventive.

These are popular because of their low initial cost, ease of application, durability impermeability and sufficient elasticity of film to prevent rupture during expansion and contraction of the metal.

Various protective measures like alloying, plating, painting are used by the Engineering industries to prevent metal from the effect of corrosion. While above measures indicates permanent /semi permanent nature

Although straight petroleum oils have some rust protective properties, they are in adequate under sever conditions and additives must be called on for assistance.

The selection of suitable rust preventives depend up on following factors.

  • The duration of protection.
  • Nature of surface
  • Nature of film
  • Remove ability of the film
  • Handling conditions.

Mark rust preventives series offers you range of products, selectively formulated for various specific applications and offers following advantages:

  • Non staining
  • Compatible with lubricating oils and hence the surface film need not be removed.
  • Can be applied by brush or swab
  • Can be easily removed by solvent.
  • They are economical.

Rust preventives can be classified in to four groups:

  • Oil- film type
  • Greasy type ( hot dip )
  • Solvent cut back type

These grades can be applied by brushing, sparing and dipping. Removal of rust preventives is very simple, can be removed by rubbing the parts with soaked rag in solvent.

OIL FLIM TYPE

MARK RP MO- 33, 100, 250Download product Specification

Mark RP MO grades are lubricating oil containing soluble corrosion inhibitors.

These grades are used where combined lubricating and rust preventive action is required. For example storage protection of I.C.Engines, general purpose slushing, hydraulic Systems, power transmission, chain drives, turbines, pumps etc.

GREASY- FLIM TYPE

MARK RP GR-56 & 57Download product Specification

These grades are softened for easy application, after which they set up to form durable protective film that do not dry hard. The film is heavy, tacky and non drying.

These grades are soft, wax solid at room temperature. They do not contain any solvent.

Application may be made by brush, swab, or dip after the rust preventive has been heated to molten state. For the best results, the temperature of the part to be protected should be raised to the melting point of rust preventive.

SOLVENT CUT BACK TYPE

Mark RP DW-175 and RP DW-275Download product Specification

These grades are composed of petroleum base film forming materials and proved rust inhibitors film forming ingredients and water displacing additives dissolved in the petroleum solvent.

The solvent evaporates and leaves thin transparent greasy soft film These grades contain water displacing additives, which mean that all traces of moisture on the surface of components being coated are displaced by a protective film.

It can be applied by any convenient means brushing, dipping, and spraying. These grades are suitable for indoor storage under moderate conditions.

SOLVENT CUT BACK TYPE (Hard Film)

Mark RP DF-115 and RP DF-120Download product Specification

These grades consist of film forming ingredients dissolved in solvent. When applied on metal surface the solvent part of rust preventive evaporates leaving tough, abrasion resistant film. The film is slightly tacky initially but hardens within few hours to a firm plastic type film.

RP DF-115 grade gives hard yellowish red transparent varnish like film.

Mrak RP DW- HYDownload product Specification

Mark RP DW-HY is blackish soft film water displacement type rust preventive.Mark RP DW-HY, when applied to wet metal surface displaces water very fast leaving behind soft thin blackish tacky protective film on the metal surface.
